About Pelham Centre |
Special EducationDuring the course of instruction, teachers make accommodations for students who are having learning difficulties. Should these accommodations not be sufficient to meet the student’s needs, a teacher or parent can request an In-School Team meeting. The In-School Team is composed of the classroom teacher, the Learning Resource Teacher, the principal, the parent and possibly central resource staff. The In-School Team meets to consider the problems or issues identified by the parent or teacher and suggest strategies to deal with the problem. Responsibility for following up is assigned and a review date set. At some time, it may be necessary to refer a student to the Identification, Placement and Review Committee. The DSBN has a document which describes the process and this is available at the school from the L.R.T or the principal. The L.R.T. (Learning Resourse Teacher) Mr. Ford is available at Pelham Centre to assist students who are having learning difficulties. He is at the school mornings only. Teachers who have concerns about a student will present them to the I.S.T. (In-School Team). Parents are also encouraged to speak with their child’s teacher if problems arise. Establishing a partnership between home & school is essential to develop a plan to ensure student success.
